Primary Purpose of the Position

Reporting into the VP and General Manager, France and Africa, the Head of Channels will be responsible for all content, editorial and marketing related strategy and execution for Kids (Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito, Boing and Toonami) and General Entertainment channels (currently TCM in France and Africa) and digital branded propositions.

Leading and bringing together various departments, the Head of Channels will devise and implement the creative and communication strategy for all Turner brands and channels in France and Africa as well as being responsible for all network activities related to presentation and production. They will work in collaboration with central EMEA and Southern Europe and Africa (SEA) management teams and will collaborate on the definition and implementation of the company editorial strategy.

Leading from the front, he/she will be accountable for managing and developing a high-performing team whilst being hands-on in delivering against Turner’s editorial goals and transforming the culture in the region. The heads of the editorial departments will report into her / him, whilst working in a matrix structure within Turner EMEA/SEA and, in some cases, having dotted lines to International executives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the local Programming, Creative, Marketing and Digital, Public Relations, Presentation and Production teams, coordinating activities and ensuring they work together effectively towards common goals
  • Responsible for content acquisition, programming and dubbing activities for all channels
  • Manage relationships with key external providers and partners
  • Responsible for all on and off-air activities to ensure the best brand positioning and communication strategies are established
  • Ensure all strategies support engagement, audiences /traffic and commercial initiatives, determining which contents work for channel brands across difference platforms
  • Responsible for transmission schedules for all Turner channels and all legal and regulatory reporting for Ofcom and French and African communication authorities
  • Responsible for production, providing guidance on all aspects of workflows and ensuring efficient processes and procedures are in place
  • Oversee all creative and branding initiatives to ensure a consistent message for each channel brand Growing the Core Business

  • Oversee the programming and channel management across the linear and non-linear portfolio, influencing and designing long-term programming schedules that drive ratings and engagement

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with both internal (distribution, advertising sales, licensing and merchandising) and external commercial partners to maximise revenue and grow audiences for all Turner channels and content
  • Identify and invest in original and/or local programming opportunities
  • Identify opportunities to launch new channels, both linear and non-linear
  • Manage the programming and acquisition budgets efficiently and strategically with professional day to day management of forecast and planning Brand Portfolio

  • Build audiences, create branded media destinations and engaging fan experiences across multiple linear and non-linear consumer touch points

  • Identify and pursue acquisition of new brands in selected markets and export of US and International brands across regions Expanding Revenue Streams

  • Co-lead the digital expansion strategy including mobile, OTT and Direct-to-Consumer (D2C)

  • Support the Consumer Products business through strategic franchise management
  • Be co-responsible for the digital strategy and managing websites, digital branded destinations, apps, web revenues and the day-to-day management of all Video on Demand services Leadership

  • Act as an ambassador for Turner, representing the best interests of the business both internally and externally; Provide strong leadership to editorial teams in the region

  • Work in a collaborative manner and instil a culture of excellence throughout the organisation

  • Proven inspirational and creative leadership abilities

  • Track record of success in TV broadcasting; track record in channel management, preferably with experience of running Kids TV channels, including programming, marketing, digital marketing and creative
  • Deep knowledge of French TV and Kids TV is required
  • Able to demonstrate a successful and tangible track record of creative vision, innovation, brand development and exploitation
  • Strong knowledge of communication processes and solid communication skills
  • Strong blend of strategic and operational skills
  • Strong financial acumen and budgetary management experience
  • Passionate, self-motivated, flexible and able to prioritize
  • Strong networking and negotiation skills to maintain and build long term commercial relationships
