The Director Data and Analytics, EMEA is responsible for the oversight, direction and delivery of Turner’s Data Strategy in the EMEA region.

This new position will help the creation and implementation of data driven solutions across all media and platforms, and will assess opportunities for data-driven automation, decision-making, and insights generation.

Leveraging Turner International’s data capabilities and liaising with the newly-formed Digital Ventures and Innovation team, the new role will convey the EMEA region’s data needs and will be responsible for the full implementation across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with business areas across the region to understand business challenges and identify (commercial) opportunities related to the use of data
  • Collaborate with Turner International (Digital Ventures and Innovation team) to share potential use cases in the EMEA region to shape the international digital products portfolio
  • Collaborate with Turner International (Digital Ventures and Innovation team) operations to leverage technology assets including the Turner Data Cloud and associated tools, capabilities, best practices and market knowledge to maximize the use of our best internal capabilities and tailoring these to work in EMEA markets
  • Successfully implement all Turner International data products as business as usual across the EMEA markets in conjunction with Directors of Data and Consumer Insights in each region
  • Apply expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, and the presentation of data to see beyond the numbers and understand how our customers interact with our products for smaller scale projects to fulfil specific regional needs
  • Communicate insights from analyses or the future benefits of a data product to internal stakeholders in clear business terms
  • Provide thought leadership and “educate” the business on the rapidly evolving space of digital and data analysis and assess implications for Turner and the wider market
  • Working closely with the VP of Data and Consumer Insights to lead the transformational journey to convert the team into a more strategic and forward looking function that can demonstrate a visible impact on the business
  • Build relationships with key industry stakeholders and become a respected leader in the digital media and data analytics space in EMEA

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable ability to drive or be a part of driving major strategic change
  • Strategic thinker that can take a high-level view to determine business priorities and the appropriate allocation of resources
  • Passionate and enthusiastic individual with excellent executive communication and relationship building skills; comfortable dealing with senior management and senior industry stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and, in particular, a distinctive ability in delivering a clear, structured, and compelling vision of the benefits of applying data in a creative (and therefore non-data literate) environment
  • Understanding and awareness of key trends and issues in the major media markets in Europe and of new media ventures and technology trends globally
  • Proven experience and success record across all areas of data strategy, data driven insights and data platforms
  • Computer science degree, engineering degree or MBA or equivalent qualification preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of statistical programming languages such as R or the Python scientific stack (NumPy, SciPy, scikit-learn, etc.) preferred
  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (RedShift, S3, EC2, EMR, etc.) and Apache Spark preferred
  • Ability to operate successfully in a “virtual” team environment and in a cross-cultural, multi-regional setting
