What does our department do?

  • Ever wonder how a company determines the next big thing and shifts to be the leader even before the customer knows they want it? - As a Portfolio Management / Product Strategy Intern, you'll be the bridge between IT, Finance, Design, and Product Teams.
  • You will work with a small, focused team that engages with every aspect of CNN Digital including Mobile Apps, TV Apps, Emerging Technology, Global Web, Premium Businesses, and Enabling Platforms. - Our team incorporates the following four functions:
  • Product Strategy - All great products start with a clear strategy that is customer and market-driven. Strategy ensures that you work on what matters; analyzing which products are the core money makers that we need to maintain and determining industry trends, so you can make sure CNN is leading in the new cutting-edge markets that have yet to be discovered.
  • Digital Monetization - Once a new market or demographic is discovered and targeted, digital monetization determines how the product can be monetized to help justify the investment.
  • Portfolio Management - Once strategy and revenue metrics are determined, Portfolio Management evaluates the requested initiatives utilizing our Financial Management best practices and principals. Portfolio Management provides forecasting and business analysis to advise on the appropriate investment for the requested initiatives.
  • CNN Digital's Culture and Engagement - Since our team is highly integrated into the entire CNN Digital organization, we have a unique opportunity to influence the Corporate Culture. We own numerous initiatives and events to help inspire a fun, innovative, and exciting environment.

What will you be doing?

  • Candidate would help segment producers in a variety of ways, including:
  • Collect and analyze data necessary to inform product direction, whether in the form of competitive intel, customerbehavior, or other business metrics-
  • Assist in the partnership with Finance to oversee monthly capital expense tracking and forecasting-
  • Track and report KPIs using simple, clear reporting and custom dashboards for a range of stakeholders from highly technical to executive-level- Research and develop competitive and emerging market analyses - Perform proactive analysis and employ critical thinking skills toward current business processes to recommend process improvements, understand business needs, and determine solutions to mission critical business challenges-
  • Partner with product management, editorial, design, and third party stakeholders to gather business requirements and constraints
  • Assist in setting up social activities for the entire organizationHelp create graphics, cut video and sound bites
  • Help write news copy
  • Help coordinate live guest appearances
  • Create links of on-air segments for guests.

What do we need from you?

  • Background in journalism study
  • Detail-oriented with strong quantitative and analytical skills that can be leveraged to evaluate portfolios andinvestment opportunities
  • The ability to prioritize, multitask and work effectively with a team in a deadline-driven environment-
  • An interest in the financial markets, industry regulations and portfolio management
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with teams throughout the organization
  • A proactive and inquisitive approach toward new challenges and problem-solving- Strong MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint skills are require-
  • This is a part-time to full-time position, preferably a minimum of 20 hours per week across at least 3 days per week. What's so great about this internship?

  • Interns are paid at or above minimum-wage based on location and relocation is not provided.
  • Participation in the internship program is reserved for students who are currently enrolled or within 6 months post-graduation.
